The Siren List
We’re excited to introduce you to The Siren List. Our first awards category reserved for the crème de la crème Opulist spots.
For a site that already hand-selects the best there is in design and aesthetics for places to stay, eat, and drink - meaning every Opulist location is already deemed special and recommended by us - this is a way to elevate the very best there is. Particularly following the guideline of “a place worthy of planning an entire trip around.”
Inspired by the power of a beautiful place to pull us in with its allure (hence the ‘Siren’ name), enough to cause us to want to travel far and wide just to be in its physical presence. These are the places worthy of that title, and will be noted on the site for you to discover.
Some caveats for now:
- This list is not exhaustive. It’s a work in progress and will continue being added to.
- These locations must have been visited (and photographed) in person by us. There are many spots currently on Opulist that fall on our personal “Siren List” that we’d love to add, but we want them to be verified through and through.
- These are not sponsored or paid placements. We will always hold the integrity that you cannot buy your way onto Opulist, they must be independently chosen and confirmed by us.
Congratulations to this first round of Siren Spots. Thank you to the designers, builders, owners, and staff that create such special and beautiful places for us to enjoy. We are better for it and we are honored to share your sparkle with our users and audience.
INNESS | Accord, NY
A place that feels like bougie, grown-up summer camp in the best way possible, INNESS is a magical, sprawling property just an hour or so outside of NYC, and the perfect escape for every season. A chic, cozy, Scandinavian vibe with multiple lodging options, a restaurant, a spa, and all the activities you could want - golf, a pool, bike rides, etc. A dreamy stay worth planning a whole trip around for sure.
The Pink Cabana | Indian Wells, CA
The Pink Cabana feels like a true diamond in the rough, tucked inside the eclectic Sands Hotel in an unassuming parking lot off Hwy 111 in Indian Wells. Designed by Martyn Lawrence Bullard, the details are retro, fun, and striking all at once. The abundance of glowing orb pendants is a highlight on top of the green tiled bar and tropical wallpaper lining the walls. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well.
Candy Bar | The Siren Hotel | Detroit, MI
An Opulist staple if you’ve been here for a while. Set inside the darling Siren Hotel, Candy Bar manages to transport you to another era and place in the tiniest of spaces. Between the giant golden, glowing chandelier above the bar, the largest disco ball you’ve ever seen, red velvet booths, and pink shiny walls, every detail of this art deco jewel box feels perfect.
Starlite | San Diego, CA
Starlite is a place with a history as special as its design. A staple in the San Diego community, the recent re-design was a labor of love between its original designers Bells & Whistles, and the ever-present creative force of Consortium Holdings hospitality group. A night here feels like leaving the planet, and somehow blends together multiple themes and design styles in several rooms to bring a whole experience to your night out.
The Lafayette | San Diego, CA
Another Consortium Holdings masterpiece, The Lafayette is their first hotel project, and also takes you on a multi-location journey once you step in the doors. From its multiple bars - including a full arcade - to its lively pool to its downstairs jazz bar - to its 3 different restaurants to choose from - you could get lost here for days and never run out of things to do. The design is wild and inspiring and even a step inside the lobby would be worth your time.
The Champagne and Caviar Bar at RH Guesthouse | Meatpacking District, NYC, NY
The Champagne and Caviar Bar at RH Guesthouse is where you should go if you want to feel like the richest person in the world for a night. Everything about this gilded, tiny room feels decadent and abundant, and its the type of place that lets you become a whole new persona for the night if you’d like. Pearl Box | SoHo, NYC, NY
Pearl Box is two story cocktail bar in SoHo that wraps you in warm wood-paneled walls, velvet booths, and mirrored stairways. More than just a nod to the retro glamour of the 70s and 80s, a night here feels like a full time travel experience.
There is elevated bar food to dine on, wildly fun cocktails, caviar service, and even bowls of delicious gummy candy to delight in.
Powder Room | Austin, TX
Powder Room is a swanky speakeasy found behind a sandwich shop in downtown Austin, TX.
A design dream, this bar is perfectly dim and moody - with plush, tropical, and retro elements woven throughout it. There are corner booths and bar spots, velvet chairs and throw pillows, and an elevated DJ booth with vibey tunes that make you feel like maybe you’ve transported into the living room of a rock star from the 70’s. The bar is also a phone-free establishment, to ensure you really get to go back in time ;)
Corsa | Caldera House | Teton Village, WY
Corsa is a gorgeous, delicious Italian restaurant found inside Caldera House in Teton Village in Jackson Hole, WY that somehow creates both a fun and lively après ski vibe during the day, and a swanky, romantic mood for dinner at night. The design feels warm and woodsy but also fresh and chic so it’s less “lodge” vibes and truly a gem of a spot to be discovered amidst the snowy slopes of Wyoming.
The Madrona Hotel | Healdsburg, CA
The Madrona Hotel found just outside the downtown area of Healdsburg, CA is a delicious, historic gem of both a hotel and a restaurant set on a vineyard in this gorgeous wine town. Filled with stunning art and striking furniture, every corner is interesting and beautiful and makes you feel at home, but also transported to the most luxurious getaway in wine country you could imagine.
